This was one of the earliest available diagrams of the YF-23 and was published in The Complete Book of Fighters, by William Green & Gordon Swanborough. Dennis Punnet did well to capture the shape accurately given the scarcity of information back in 1994. It depicts the YF119 engined PAV-1. It had a few small errors but was a credible effort.

Mike Badrock's attempt at a cutaway diagram which was published in World Air Power Journal Volume 7, in 1991, as part of Bill Sweetman's article. Although labelled 'YF-23' it is a hybrid mixture of prototype and EMD variants. There was very little publicly available information on the internal details of the YF-23 at the time, so Mike had to improvise. It is more of a schematic than a proper depiction. It was produced on the basis of information about the F-23A EMD variant accidentally handed out at the rollout ceremony of PAV-1 by Northrop staff, so it incorporates the second weapons bay and a Gatling gun. It also depicted the 2 different engines installed in the aircraft: one on each side. The HUD is incorrect. The launcher Mike came up with for the AIM-120's is technically not feasible. Although this diagram is not accurate for either variant it performs a useful function of indicating basic layout. Incorrect components in the diagram have been hilighted with a red square.

Scott Lowther has a site called up-ship.com where he sells copies of detailed technical drawings of all sorts of aircraft and spacecraft, and in March 2009 he received approval to publicly release official Northrop technical drawings of the YF-23 PAV. This release is thorough and complete; it contains a full set of cross sections and internal details, including, for the first time, views of the GE YF120. The drawings include top, bottom, port, and starboard views; and show all major componentry. He charges a nominal fee for the full res versions of these drawings.

This is a schematic diagram of what PAV-1's weapons bay could have looked like if the weapons enhancement upgrade had been made after Dem/Val. It is theoretical, and has been constructed based on all publicly available information about PAV-1. Northrop literature stated that provisions had been made to carry 3 AIM-120 AMRAAMs and 2 AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles inside the bay of PAV-1, and Piccirillo's book mentions that a single instrumented inert AIM-120 round was carried briefly for weapons bay acoustic tests, but the full complement was never carried. This might have occurred after an upgrade if the Northrop EMD proposal had been chosen instead of Lockneed's. This diagram is exclusive to YF-23.net.

This diagram was found while Googling for YF-23 material and appears to be some sort of speculation on what a vectored yaw thrust modification might look like. Scott Lowther has confirmed on the Secret Projects forum that this was in fact a diagram relating to a Boeing proposal to use a YF-23 airframe for bi-directional jet nozzle technology demonstration. Nothing seems to have come of it.

This is a 3-view diagram that has been floating around the internet for some years and is downloadable off an Eastern European site. It is completely innaccurate and should be avoided.
