The dynamic shape of the YF-23 has given rise to a proliferation of scale models of every type, in all sorts of scales, scratchbuilt by amateurs, and released by commercial companies. The biggest scale model was the full size RCS model made as part of the Dem/Val phase of the ATF programme. The smallest was a 1/400 scale model released by a Japanese company called Arii a few years ago. Northrop produced several wind tunnel and concept display models as part of the ATF programme. The YF-23 has been produced as a static scale model kit in several scales, as a desktop display model, and as a radio control flying model as well. None of the models commercially released so far are really accurate. Hopefully the recent increase in available information will remedy this. The best effort to date will be the 1/32 scale effort currently being developed by Zactoman, but this is not available for sale yet. |
